Breast Procedures

Breast augumentation

Breast augmentation is a procedure designed to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breasts through the use of saline or silicone breast implants. Breast augmentation can, to some degree, lift a sagging bustline, create more symmetrical breasts, and correct a reduction in breast volume following pregnancy.

The Breast Augumentation Procedure

There are several ways your breast augmentation procedure can be performed at our facility in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Breast implants can be placed either above or below the chest muscles, and the incisions can be made either around the areola (Peri-Areolar) or under the fold of the breast (Inframmary). The breast augmentation method you and Dr. Claudiu Filip choose depends on factors such as breast size and your level of physical activity. Here are the different breast augmentation procedures Dr. Claudiu Filip will discuss with you during your consultation:

  • Periareolar submuscular: During this breast augmentation procedure, the incision is made around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and the breast implants are placed behind the chest muscle.
  • Periareolar subglandular: During this breast augmentation procedure, the incision is made around the areola, and the breast implants are placed above the chest muscle.
  • Inframmary submuscular: During this breast augmentation procedure, the incision is made in the fold under the breast, and the breast implants are placed behind the chest muscle.
  • Inframmary subglandular: During this breast augmentation procedure, the incision is made in the fold under the breast, and the breast implants are placed above the chest muscle.

Breast augmentation usually takes one to two hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia administered by a highly trained anesthesiologist.

Breast Augumentation Recovery

You can expect to feel sore for a few days following your breast augmentation procedure, but you should be up and around within 24 to 48 hours. Your stitches will be removed approximately 2 weeks following your surgery, and you can expect your breasts to remain swollen for three to five weeks. Dr. Claudiu Filip will let you know when you can return to daily activity and exercise.

Breast Implants

Dr. Claudiu Filip offers a variety of breast implant types in an effort to provide our patients with the ability to customize their breast augmentation procedure. To best meet the cosmetic goals of his patients, Dr. Claudiu Filip works with each individual to find the right size, shape, and style. In a one-on-one consultation, he can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option, ensuring patients are well-informed prior to making a decision.

Breast lift with implants

The appearance of the breasts can change over time due to a variety of factors, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, and the natural aging process. Due to a loss of breast tissue and/or inelastic supporting skin, the breasts may sag, droop, change position, or diminish in volume. Breast augmentation is designed to improve and enhance the volume and shape of the breasts, while a breast lift is designed to elevate the position of the breast and eliminate any excess skin. However, when combined, a breast lift with implants (also known as breast augmentation mastopexy, or BAM) can offer women a more comprehensive rejuvenation with beautiful results. Each BAM procedure can be custom-tailored to meet your individual needs.

Candidates for breast lift with augumentation

If you desire to increase the volume of your breasts while simultaneously repositioning their placement on the chest wall, a breast lift with implants may be right for you. During the consultation process, Dr. Claudiu Filip will perform a physical examination, carefully review your medical history, discuss your expectations, and help determine if this comprehensive procedure can meet your needs. For ideal candidates, breast augmentation mastopexy can:

  • Increase volume;
  • Improve overall shape;
  • Elevate breast position;
  • Reposition the nipples;
  • Reduce the size of the areolas;
  • Improve firmness;
  • Restore youthful appearance;
  • Boost confidence.

The Breast Augumentation Mastopexy (BAM) Procedure

Depending upon the techniques used for your procedure, breast augmentation mastopexy is usually completed within one to three hours. All BAM surgeries are performed using general anesthesia. In most cases, the same incision used for the breast lift can also be used to place the implant. Using his experience and the latest surgical techniques, our experienced plastic surgeon can help minimize any potential scarring and expedite your recovery.

Recovery after Breast Augumentation with Lift

Most of our patients are able to return home on the same day as their breast lift with implants procedure. After BAM surgery, Dr. Claudiu Filip recommends resting for approximately two weeks before returning to work or your normal routine. Some patients may feel comfortable returning earlier, depending upon their comfort level. For two weeks following your procedure, a compression garment can be worn to aid in the recovery process. Patients typically experience some swelling and bruising after breast surgery, though oral medication can easily manage any discomfort.

Breast Reduction

Exceptionally large breasts can cause more than just feelings of embarrassment – they can cause physical discomfort and medical problems as well. Breast reduction surgery removes fat, tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them proportionate with the rest of the body. The goal of breast reduction is to make the breasts smaller, lighter, and firmer. Breast reduction can also reduce the size of the areola (the dark-pigmented region surrounding the nipple).

Please contact our skilled plastic surgeon if you have questions about breast reduction, or if you would like to schedule a consultation.

The Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast reduction begins with an incision around the areola that extends below the natural curve of the breast. Excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue are removed. The nipple and areola are then placed in their new position. The remaining skin is tightened to form the new shape of the breast. The entire breast reduction procedure is performed under general anesthesia and can take up to three hours to complete.

Breast Reduction Recovery

After your breast reduction procedure, you will have gauze dressings and a supportive bra will be applied. Although you will likely experience swelling, bruising, and minor discomfort after breast reduction, these side effects will subside as your breasts heal.

Large breasts can limit physical activity, restrict your ability to wear certain types of clothing, and cause discomfort and embarrassment. If you are troubled by large breasts and think that breast reduction may be right for you, please contact Clinica VenArt today.

Breast Revision Surgery

For patients who are dissatisfied with the outcome of a previous breast surgery they may have had from another surgeon, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Claudiu Filip can improve the results and bring them more in line with your expectations. Revision breast surgery can be performed to switch from silicone to saline implants (or from saline to silicone); increase or decrease implant size; address complications that have arisen from a previous surgery; remove breast implants; correct asymmetry; and give you results that are closer to your original goals.

Saline to Silicone Implant Exchange

Since the FDA’s approval of silicone breast implants in 2006, many women consider exchanging saline implants for silicone to enjoy their more natural feel. Dr. Filip can also change the size and/or shape of the implant, depending on your ultimate goals.

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture is a rare occurrence that can sometimes affect women who have breast implants. The condition is characterized by thick scar tissue forming around the implant and causing a feeling of hardness to the breast. Capsular contracture can also have an effect on breast shape. Dr. Filip can remove the scar tissue and remove or replace the implant, depending on your goals.

Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant removal is a relatively simple procedure that can often be performed utilizing the original areas of incision for breast augmentation. Patients decide to remove breast implants for a variety of reasons, and implant removal should restore the breasts to their original size. Patients who have had breast implants for long periods of time may experience some degree of loose, drooping skin after the implants have been removed; however, in these instances, a breast lift can be performed to restore firmness and “perkiness” to the breasts.

Breast Implant Deflation

Although rare, breast implant deflation can happen with saline implants, particularly if you have had the implants for a long period of time. Deflation will necessitate removal or replacement, and patients should keep in mind that many breast implants are covered under warranties. In those cases, the cost of replacing deflated saline implants may be able to be defrayed, depending on the age of the implants, the company that manufactured them, and other factors. Dr. Claudiu Filip recommends you bring any records you may have of your implants to your initial consultation and the staff will be happy to look into possible warranty coverage.

Previous Breast Surgery

Regardless of the type of breast surgery you have had previously, it does not automatically disqualify you from undergoing another breast surgery. However, revision surgery should only be performed by board-certified surgeons who have experience with breast procedures.

Please contact us to schedule a consultation at Clinica VenArt for revision breast surgery.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Factors such as pregnancy, nursing, weight loss or gain, and the natural aging process can cause breasts to lose their firmness and shape. Our plastic surgeon performs breast lift to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Breast lift can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). Breast lift patients who want to enhance both firmness and size can choose to have breast implants as well.

Breast Lift Techniques and Procedures

Dr. Claudiu Filip performs a range of breast lift (Mastopexy) techniques, each with their own benefits and advantages. Some patients may be experiencing more subtle signs of breast ptosis (sagginess in the breasts) and may therefore need less invasive breast lift surgery to attain their goals. Others may be experiencing more severe signs of breast sagginess, and could require a more invasive breast lift technique to meet their needs.

The following breast lift techniques are some of the options Dr. Claudiu Filip offers for his patients. During your initial consultation, he will discuss the various techniques with you and help you determine which may be the best option for you.

Crescent Mastopexy (Half-Moon Incision)

Crescent Mastopexy is often ideal for women who only have mild breast sagging. This is the least invasive Mastopexy technique, and is typically a good option for women who have excess skin in the top portion of the breasts. An incision resembling a half-moon shape will be made on the upper part of the areola (the dark-pigmented area surrounding the nipple). Extra skin and tissue is removed, and once the incision is sutured together, the breasts can look more firm and youthful. Crescent Mastopexy can be combined with breast augmentation to provide you with added volume in addition to more youthful-looking breasts.

Peri-Areolar (Doughnut) Mastopexy

Commonly known as a Doughnut Mastopexy, a Peri-Areolar breast lift involves incisions made around the areola, followed by the removal of excess skin. The nipples are then moved to a higher position. This gives the breasts a firmer, more “perky” appearance. A Doughnut Mastopexy can be very effective for women who have slight asymmetry in the appearance of the breasts and/or nipples. This procedure is not ideal for patients who are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed. Breast implants can be combined with Peri-Areolar Mastopexy for added fullness in the breasts.

”Lollipop” Mastopexy

The “Lollipop” Mastopexy, or Vertical Breast Lift, can be a good option for women who have medium-sized breasts and are experiencing moderate to severe sagginess in the breasts. This breast lift technique can also be effective for women who have large breasts but more subtle signs of breast ptosis. Incisions resembling the shape of a lollipop are made around the areola down to the breast crease. Excess skin is then removed, and the remainder is tightened. The “Lollipop” Mastopexy is typically performed in women who may be showing pronounced signs of droopiness in the breasts, but do not need a Full Mastopexy procedure to obtain significant improvement. A “Lollipop” Mastopexy can be performed in conjunction with a breast enlargement procedure to give your breasts added volume and fullness.

Full Mastopexy – Anchor/Wise Pattern/Inverted T-Incision

A Full Mastopexy is designed to improve significant signs of drooping and sagging in the breasts. It is the most traditional breast lift technique. Also known as an Anchor Mastopexy, a Wise Pattern Mastopexy, and an Inverted T-Incision Mastopexy, this procedure involves anchor-shaped incisions that begin around the areola and follow down to the breast crease and along the breast fold. Next, excess skin and tissue are removed and the bustline is tightened and lifted. The nipple and areola are moved to a higher position, and the surrounding skin is brought down to reshape and firm up the breasts.

Breast Lift with Implants (Breast Augumentation Mastopexy)

Regardless of the mastopexy technique used, adding breast implants to the procedure can provide a more comprehensive rejuvenation for women who wish to increase the volume and improve the overall shape of the breasts in addition to a lift. This custom-tailored breast surgery combines the benefits of a breast lift with the benefits of breast augmentation for a fuller overall shape and more youthful breast position.

Breast Lift Recovery

All breast lift procedures are performed under general anesthesia and usually take one and a half to three and a half hours to complete. Some techniques may take less time, depending on each patient’s unique physical needs.

After breast lift, your breasts will have gauze dressings and a supportive bra will be applied. You can expect to experience swelling, bruising, and some minor discomfort after your breast lift procedure, but these side effects will subside within a few days. Dr. Claudiu Filip and his staff will give you detailed instructions for resuming normal activities.

Breast lift can correct a drooping bustline and restore your curves to their youthful beauty.
