If any of this sounds familiar, we may be able to help.

Most UK patients who contact us are in one of these situations. If yours is similar, a surgeon can review your case within 48 hours and give you a clear picture of your options.

You've been told you have carotid stenosis

Diagnosed after a duplex ultrasound, CT angiography, MRI or specialist consultation — and you want to understand your options clearly.

You've had a TIA or minor stroke event

You'd like a specialist view on whether endarterectomy, stenting or monitoring is the right path — and how soon it should happen.

The NHS waiting list is too long

You've been told intervention may be needed, but the timeline you've been quoted feels longer than the situation warrants.

UK private quotes are out of reach

You've received quotes of £12,000–£18,000 from UK private clinics and want a transparent, lower-cost alternative — with the same standard of surgeon.

Researching for a parent or partner? You don't need their imaging yet — start by asking us questions. We regularly speak with family members who are doing the research.

Two distinct steps, both transparent on cost. You're never charged before you know exactly what you're getting.

What carotid treatment costs — and how long it takes.

A straightforward comparison. The wait is often the bigger difference, not just cost.

Procedure / step UK private VenArt clinic Typical wait
Specialist consultation £250 – £400 Included Days, not weeks
Duplex + CT angiography review £600 – £1,200 Included or credited toward plan Within 48h of upload
Carotid endarterectomy £12,000 – £18,000 From £6,300 save ~55% 2–3 weeks
Complete carotid surgery package £16,000 – £22,000+ From £7,800 save ~60% Scheduled after review
Carotid stenting pathway Varies widely Quoted after imaging review Case-specific

Figures are starting prices for standard cases and are finalised after surgical review of your specific imaging. The VenArt starting price typically covers consultation, imaging review, the procedure, hospital stay and structured follow-up. Complex or high-risk cases may be quoted higher. Flights and accommodation are additional and discussed transparently before any booking.

Why is it more affordable? Romania has lower operating costs, not lower expectations. The model is specialist-led, efficient, and built around one coordinated pathway instead of fragmented appointments billed separately.

From your first email to home in the UK — five straightforward steps.

1

Send us your case

Email your duplex ultrasound, CT angiography, MRI or discharge summary. A consultant vascular surgeon reviews the case within 48 hours and tells you plainly whether surgery is the right next step.

2

Optional video consultation — £200

If you want a detailed conversation before deciding to travel, you can book a 30–45 minute video call with the surgeon who would operate. They walk through your imaging, your options and the recovery timeline. This step is optional — many patients proceed directly to step 3 based on the written assessment from step 1.

3

Travel to Cluj-Napoca

Direct Wizz Air flight from London Luton, under three hours. We coordinate timing, airport pickup and hotel so you arrive with everything arranged.

4

Treatment and recovery

Pre-op checks, anaesthetic review, the carotid procedure itself and post-op monitoring — all under the same roof, by the same team. Typical hospital stay: 2–4 days. Total trip: usually 5–7 days.

5

Home with a clear follow-up plan

You leave with an English discharge summary for your GP, recovery instructions, medication guidance, and scheduled remote follow-up by your surgeon at 2, 6 and 12 weeks.

London to Cluj-Napoca in 3 hours. Simpler than most patients expect.

Direct daily flights

Wizz Air operates direct routes from London Luton (LTN) to Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) — flight time around 2h 45m. Other UK airports connect via European hubs.

Companion travel built in

Most patients travel with a partner or adult child. We plan around that from the first conversation — hotel, visit timing and logistics.

Airport transfer arranged

Pickup from CLJ airport to your hotel and clinic is coordinated by our team. Local rides within the city are inexpensive and easy.

Stay close to the clinic

We recommend hotels within walking distance or a short ride, so the trip stays low-stress for both patient and companion.

A working hospital, not a medical tourism agency.

VenArt has been operating in Cluj-Napoca since 2013 — thirteen years of vascular, endocrine, plastic, orthopaedic, ENT and laparoscopic surgery, treating over 65,000 patients to date. We're a multidisciplinary clinic with more than 30 specialists under one roof.

What that means for you: when you travel to us, you're not booking an isolated procedure with a freelance surgeon. You're being treated inside an established hospital with intensive care, imaging, anaesthesiology and post-operative monitoring all in-house. Our vascular team handles the full pathway — from the moment your scans land in our inbox to the moment your UK GP receives your discharge summary.

What our UK patients tell us made the difference.

When the decision is about vascular surgery, reassurance comes from credentials, organisation and honesty — not marketing language.

Cases reviewed promptly

Your imaging is typically reviewed within 48 hours. You move from uncertainty to a clear picture of your options in days, not months.

Surgeon credentials you can verify

Our vascular team includes a renowned French vascular innovator, a UCLA-trained dual board-certified surgeon, and a German-certified endovascular specialist.

One team, one pathway

Consultation, imaging review, surgery, hospitalisation and follow-up are organised through a single clinic team — no fragmentation, no admin lost between providers.

Clear, upfront pricing

You know the expected cost, the inclusions, and what to bring before you book a flight. From £6,300 for standard carotid endarterectomy — final price confirmed after your case is reviewed individually.

Designed for UK GP continuity

Discharge summaries, operative notes and follow-up guidance are all provided in English, formatted for your UK GP to take over continuity of care.

Companion travel built in

Most patients travel with a partner or family member. Logistics, hotel, transfer and visit timing are built in from day one.

Patient stories — coming soon

We're collecting testimonials from recent UK patients with their consent. We'd rather share real stories than generic copy. If you'd like to speak directly to a past patient before booking, ask us — we can arrange that with their consent.

When we're not the right option.

We'd rather be upfront than waste your time. There are situations where we'll direct you elsewhere — and we're comfortable doing so.

You're within 14 days of a TIA or minor stroke

Call 999 or contact your local stroke service first. The NHS pathway is fast for acute symptomatic cases — that's where you should start. We help with second opinions and longer pathways, not emergency response.

You need full insurance-billed care

We don't currently bill UK private insurance (BUPA, AXA, Vitality). If your policy covers private carotid surgery fully in the UK, that may be the simpler route. We're a self-funded option — clearly priced, no hidden costs.

You're unable to travel for medical reasons

Carotid surgery requires you to fly home a few days after the procedure. If your overall health, mobility or other conditions make travel unsafe, your local UK pathway is the right one — full stop.

A European vascular surgery centre, not a medical tourism broker.

VenArt is a multidisciplinary surgical clinic established in 2013 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, with over 65,000 patients treated across vascular, endocrine, orthopaedic, plastic and laparoscopic surgery. Our vascular surgery department is led by consultants trained and certified in France, Germany, the United States and Romania, with certifications from French, German and American vascular surgery bodies.

We operate our own surgical suites, intensive care unit, imaging and anaesthesiology departments — all under one roof. International patients receive the same clinical pathway as local patients: the same surgeons, the same protocols, the same post-operative monitoring. The only difference is that we coordinate travel logistics and provide discharge documentation in English for your GP.

Our clinical profiles, published research and board certifications are publicly verifiable on our physicians page. We welcome scrutiny — it's how trust is earned in surgery.

Clinic details

Frequently asked questions.

How quickly can I have surgery?

Once we receive your imaging, a surgeon reviews it within 48 hours. If surgery is recommended and you decide to proceed, scheduling is typically within 2–3 weeks. For urgent post-TIA cases we prioritise even faster.

What does 'from £6,300' cover?

The starting price of £6,300 covers the standard carotid endarterectomy pathway: surgical consultation, imaging review, the procedure, anaesthetic, hospital stay (typically 2–4 days), nursing care, post-op monitoring, and structured remote follow-up at 2, 6 and 12 weeks. Complex or high-risk cases may be quoted higher — your surgeon confirms the exact price after reviewing your specific imaging. Flights and accommodation are additional and discussed transparently before any booking.

What's free and what costs money before treatment?

The written medical file review is completely free — you send your scans and reports, a consultant vascular surgeon reads them and replies by email with an honest assessment, estimated price and recommended next step. No card details, no follow-up sales pressure.

If you'd like a longer conversation before deciding to travel, you can optionally book a 30–45 minute video consultation with the surgeon for £200. This step is entirely optional — many patients proceed straight to treatment based on the free written review alone.

How long is the total trip from the UK?

Most patients are in Cluj-Napoca for 5–7 days from arrival to flight home — including pre-op checks, surgery, recovery and discharge.

Is it safe to fly back after surgery?

Yes — your surgeon confirms fitness to fly before discharge. The pathway is designed around a recovery window that includes safe return travel as part of the plan.

How do I know your surgeons meet European standards?

Our credentials are fully verifiable. Senior vascular surgeon Dr. René Milleret is a renowned French specialist and innovator in vascular techniques with decades of European practice. Dr. Horațiu Flaviu Coman is certified by the German Society for Vascular Surgery with six years of senior practice in German university hospitals. Dr. Marius Fodor trained internationally at UCLA. You can view each surgeon's full profile, publications and certifications on our main clinic website before deciding to send us your case.

Who handles my follow-up in the UK?

Your GP and your VenArt surgeon — together. You receive an English discharge summary, operative notes and medication guidance to give to your GP. Your VenArt surgeon also performs remote video follow-ups at 2, 6 and 12 weeks. If anything is unclear, your GP can contact the surgeon directly.

What if something goes wrong during recovery at home?

Your surgeon stays reachable directly by email or WhatsApp for post-operative questions. Any urgent concerns should go to your GP or A&E, and we provide them with the full operative documentation so they can act on it immediately.

Can I send my scans before committing to anything?

Yes — that's exactly what the free case review is for. You only decide whether to proceed after the surgeon has reviewed your case and explained the options.

Is this a second-opinion service or a treatment service?

Both. Many patients start with a second opinion on their existing UK scans and decide separately whether to proceed at VenArt or elsewhere. There's no obligation either way.

Do I need a GP referral?

No — you can contact us directly. Sending any existing reports speeds up the clinical review, but it's not a requirement to start.
