About
In recent years, Prof. Dr. Jérôme Cau has been active in the vascular, endovascular, and thoracic surgery department at Poitiers Clinic. He treats arterial pathologies using endovascular methods (stent angioplasty, balloon angioplasty, stent-graft angioplasty, EVAR, TEVAR, thrombectomy, embolization, aortic aneurysm, varicose veins, pelvic varicose veins, endarterectomy, carotid endarterectomy, femoral endarterectomy, vascular bypass, diabetic foot, venous stenting) as well as laparoscopic and conventional vascular techniques.
He is also an Associate Researcher at CNRS (Le Centre national de la recherche scientifique) within the laparoscopic surgical robot project, developing new techniques for learning laparoscopic surgical gestures using an expert system for computerized motion capture and processing. Additionally, he is an Associate Researcher at INSERM in the project on celioscopic kidney transplantation and applications of robotic vascular surgery.
He is involved in a project to create a complex Training Center for educating digestive, vascular (arterial pathology), urological, gynecological, and orthopedic surgeons, as well as teaching advanced laparoscopic and interventional techniques using animal models (pigs), cadaver models, and simulators, employing motion capture technology.
He has developed arterial laparoscopic surgery centers, training vascular surgeons in renowned university hospitals.
Until 2013, he led the Department of Vascular Surgery and Transplantation at Benghazi Medical Center.
His vascular surgery techniques have been presented at numerous conferences and published in leading specialty journals in Europe and the USA. Recently, he has been serving as the Medical Director of the Sainte Marguerite Private Clinic Network.

Educational Programs
- Creation and development of a pilot international center for laparoscopic education. I initiated an educational program at our university hospital, dedicated to surgeons who wish to specialize in laparoscopic aortic surgery. The program includes operating room demonstrations, practical applications, laboratory work, practice on anatomical models, one-on-one interaction on the pelvitrainer device with an expert, and the creation of proprietary evaluation models;
- Supervisor for total laparoscopic aortic bypasses, in French and European vascular centers (over 100 procedures in European centers);
- Expert in laparoscopic aortic surgery since 2002 at the IRCAD-EITS Laparoscopic Training Center (Strasbourg, France);
- Creation and development of a new laparoscopic retractor (patented), a lumbar arterial occluder (patented), and other medical devices;
- Creation of a non-profit International Society dedicated to laparoscopy and other minimally invasive vascular techniques and member of the IELS Board of Directors (International Endovascular and Laparoscopic Society);
- Creation of a surgical training center (University of Poitiers, France), and development of a dedicated training program;
-
Creation and development of a surgical school, university hospital, Poitiers, France. This surgical institution represents a structure whose objective is to provide high-quality education in basic, advanced, and cutting-edge surgical techniques; both for residents and experienced surgeons. The objectives of this structure are as follows:
- To streamline and optimize the educational process of surgical practices: reducing learning time;
- To meet the needs of surgeons who request continuous improvement of their practical skills;
- To develop and teach cutting-edge surgical methods and techniques.
